Basic Agroforestry Baltimori, Year 2

Status:
completed

The second year of the Basic Agroforestry- Baltimori project (2009-10) was a great success.  The total number of participating farmers went from 10 to 14, and the total number of trees planted by these farmers more than doubled-- from 700 in 2009, to 1500 in 2010.

Participating farmers from the riverine community of Baltimori, Tambopata, Peru, planted a total of over 1000 high-quality grafted citrus trees, delivered directly from a certified nursery in the important citrus-growing region of Satipo, Junin, Peru.  Other species planted include brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa), avocado (Persea americana), and almost a dozen more.

Funding for this year´s tree planting campaign came from First Parish Social Action Grants, of the First Parish Church of Concord, Massachusetts; from the Marjorie Grant Whiting Center; and from many generous individual donors.  Thank you!
